RIGHT ROAD CRAFT… for motorcycle riders.
P redict What may occur. Always play the “what if's”. That is if I take some action what will the possible outcome be. D ecide What are you going to do. You may have to slow, speed up or change direction. E xecute Take positive action. Another part of Road Craft is lane positioning, following distance, (3 second rule) and space cushioning. A smart motorcyclist uses these simple actions to place them in the best position on the road to:- BE SEEN by other road uses and pedestrians. AVOID OBSTACLES such as metal covers, white lines, patches of oil, etc. By using a system of motorcycle control, a safe rider is always aware of what's happening around them particularly in heavy traffic. They look for potential problems and anticipate action (a way out) if this is what's required. “REMEMBER”“You are responsible for your own safety – it's no good being in the right if you're also in the ambulance”.
